Black Widow is a fictional female superhero character who first made her appearance in Marvel Comics in the year 1964. She is the alter ego of Natalia Alianovna “Natasha” Romanova, aka Natasha Romanoff, who is a Russian spy. After defecting to the United States, Natasha joins the fictional spy agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. as a field agent, as well as becoming a member of the Avengers. The character of Black Widow has recently gained popularity due to her appearances in the Iron Man 2 (2010 release), Marvel’s The Avengers (2012 release), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014 release). She is also scheduled to make her appearance in 2015 and 2016 releases of films based upon Marvel characters.
